Influencing [sustainability](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/sustainability "
In 1987, the United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
") in the textile industry is one of the core goals of the Global [Standard](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/standard "
standard glossary text
") Non-Profit Organisation. By being the world’s leading processing [Standard](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/standard "
standard glossary text
") for textiles made from [organic](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/organic "
'Organic' is a regulated term used to distinguish systems of managed production and products derived therefrom that adhere to principles of health, ecology, fairness and care, and which are certified compliant to an organic standard's regulations by an Approved Certification Body.
GOTS defines organic textiles as being made with fibres from organic agriculture systems that are certified to one of the IFOAM Family of Standards, and that are processed in socially and ecologically responsible ways, in alignment with organic principles.
") fibres, [GOTS](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/gots "
The worldwide leading voluntary sustainability standard for the post-harvest textile value chain for certified organic fibres, covering environmental criteria, human rights, social criteria and business conduct.
") provides a quality assurance system for producers as well as consumers. But how can [brands](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/brand "
A registered or unregistered trademark or other sign other than the GOTS Signs.
The term, in context, can also refer to an organisation that controls the design, development, and purchase of final products for sale under their own name. Given the fact that online sales are booming and ‘new’ media marketing is in trend, mass media channels such as fashion blogs, YouTube channels and Instagram accounts are an interesting topic to explore the question how sustainability can develop from niche to norm.
Therefore, GOTS representative Lina Pfeifer has invited two experts with relevant knowledge in this field: blogger and Youtuber Verena Erin Polowy from ["mygreencloset"](http://mygreencloset.com/), as well as Thekla Wilkening, the co-founder of ["Kleiderei"](https://kleiderei.com/), a clothing rental service.

The discussion will be an open round with the possibility for questions and will take place at the [Ethical Fashion Show](http://ethicalfashionshowberlin.com/) in **Berlin** (Kraftwerk), on **January 17th 11 a.m.**

GOTS also will be present with a booth (B40E) and we look forward to meeting you there or contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for questions or comments.
