GOTS defines organic textiles as being made with fibres from organic agriculture systems that are certified to one of the IFOAM Family of Standards, and that are processed in socially and ecologically responsible ways, in alignment with organic principles.
In 1987, the United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

It gathered representatives from across India which provided them the opportunity to share their deep knowledge and experiences about the sustainable practices being followed in home textiles sector. The highlight of the seminar was the panel discussion entitled ‘Sustainability from Fibre to Textile – Challenges and Way Forward’ moderated by Mr. Sumit Gupta, which offered a great opportunity for the audience to discuss the issues related to sustainability to further increase their understanding of the subject.
