#  GOTS Press Release +++ GOTS first Canadian roundtable takes participants behind the scenes

The Global [Organic](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/organic "<p>'Organic' is a regulated term used to distinguish systems of managed production and products derived therefrom that adhere to principles of health, ecology, fairness and care, and which are certified compliant to an organic standard's regulations by an Approved Certification Body. <br>GOTS defines organic textiles as being made with fibres from organic agriculture systems that are certified to one of the IFOAM Family of Standards, and that are processed in socially and ecologically responsible ways, in alignment with organic principles.</p>") Textile [Standard](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/standard "<p>standard glossary text</p>") ([GOTS](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/gots "<p>The worldwide leading voluntary sustainability standard for the post-harvest textile value chain for certified organic fibres, covering environmental criteria, human rights, social criteria and business conduct.</p>")) is pleased to announce the inaugural GOTS roundtable at Seneca College in Toronto, Canada on October 5. Hosted by GOTS Representative in North America, Lori Wyman, this one-of-a-kind event is intended for textile industry professionals, members of the press, [brand](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/brand "<p>A registered or unregistered trademark or other sign other than the GOTS Signs.<br>The term, in context, can also refer to an organisation that controls the design, development, and purchase of final products for sale under their own name. In that context, brands may sell to wholesalers, retailers, or directly to consumers. This does not include organisations who sell a branded intermediate product for use in further processing steps.</p>") representatives, and other stakeholders, with the goal of both informing and educating attendees about GOTS and the certification process.

The full day event will begin with an introduction and overview of GOTS and case studies of certified companies. Sessions throughout the day will clarify who needs to be certified, what is involved throughout the processing chain of organic textile products, and the laws regarding organic textile labelling in Canada.

For the second half of the day, attendees will travel to the nearby GOTS [certified entity](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/certified-entity "<p>Processor, manufacturer, trader or retailer of GOTS Goods certified by an Approved Certifier.</p>"), Fine Cotton Knitting Factory, for a tour of the [facility](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/facility "<p>An individual establishment or site where processing, manufacturing, trading or retailing of GOTS Goods is done. It is operated by a Certified Entity and inspected by an Approved Certifier.</p>"). Wyman notes, “I am absolutely thrilled to host this event and take attendees on an in-depth exploration of GOTS. It is included in a Letter of Approval and audited by a Scope 4 Approved Certifier.</p>") visit, they will get a real look behind the label. With organic such a small but growing niche in the textile market, it is so important that we share this information with those who want to tap into the full potential of a GOTS certification”. The roundtable will take place immediately preceding the annual Wear Conference, the premiere forum on [sustainable fashion](https://gots.vorschau.website/resources/glossary/sustainable-fashion "<p>Test!</p>") in Canada.
